Geography

At James Watt Primary School we study Geography in order to stimulate children’s curiosity to investigate the world and their place within it. The children have the opportunity to begin to understand people’s relationships with the physical and built environment which helps them to form ideas about how to live. The children learn about the impact of their actions on the planet and understand the importance of developing a future that is sustainable. Children learn to locate a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features. They develop contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places including the United Kingdom. Children are able to use map skills and coordinates to recognise and find places on maps of different scales, they are also able to draw a variety of maps based on their own research.
